Fowler-Hebert Organ Company
As Michigan’s largest Pipe Organ Company Fowler-Hebert is equipped to handle projects large and small. You can count on personalized attention from our team of dedicated professionals.
J. A. Hebert & Son was founded in 1918 by Joseph Auguste Hebert. Joseph apprenticed for a number of years at the Casavant Fràres factory in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. He then moved to Detroit, Michigan to begin his long illustrious career.
As a representative for Casavant Fràres , he sold and installed Casavant pipe organs throughout the Great Lakes area. and holds the record for the greatest number of sales and installations in the company's history. He continued to work at building his business well into his 80's.
Paul Hebert, upon graduating from college in 1947, joined his father in the pipe organ business. It was at this time that Joseph added "& Son" to the company name. Father and Son continued to build the business together.
J.A. Hebert & Son sold and installed over 160 Casavant pipe organs in Michigan alone. Paul was quite progressive in his time, he helped create one of the first Solid State pipe organ control systems in use. He was also involved with helping Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ Company as their organ installation director.
Upon Paul's retirement in 1980, Roch Morin (Paul's cousin) carried on the family tradition until his retirement in 2017 when he sold the company to Brian Fowler.
Brian McGregor Fowler .....
The Fowler-Hebert Organ Company’s roots lay primarily with Brian M Fowler.
Brian established a service firm in Lansing, Michigan in 1978, which became Fowler Organ Company. As his expertise became evident to his clients, the firm expanded to become a full-service pipe organ builder. Over the course of 40 years, Brian built more than 30 new instruments and completed more than 140 rebuilds of existing organs.
Brian was fascinated with pipe organs, and they became a lifetime obsession with him. An organist, a builder/designer, a technician; Brian was fully immersed in all things pipe organ.
A long time member of both the American Institute of Organ Builders and the American Guild of Organist, Brian was a tireless advocate for the preservation and maintenance of these magnificent instruments.
Brian passed away in 2018 after a long struggle with cancer. There is, perhaps, no better summation of his life’s work than the following...
